amazing grace

amazing grace

"While everyone else was running down, they were running up."

My favourite line from the play "The Guys", by the Acsian Theatre. It was one excellent performance. I absolutely loved the storyline. Every word tugged at my heartstrings. I was touched to tears.

A captain who lost 350 of his men in the September 11 disaster was supposed to write eulogies for the funerals of these people. He was torn, trying so hard to find the right words to do everyone justice of who he was. This guy from another department came over to help him, and together they went through the memories of each person, and how each gave his life saving mere strangers.

It's been 4 years since, but this play brought back all the heartaches for the victims and families of the disaster. A great sense of respect and admiration for the firemen who sacrificed overwhelmed me. How much courage does it take to run into a burning building knowing fully that you may never get out again? What does it take to go all out to save someone whom you don't even know. And those who lived but lost someone dear, would they ever get back on their feet again? Yes, they will. But they will be walking in a different way.

Saluting each and every fireman who lost his/her life for someone else, we'd always be grateful for your amazing grace. Thank you. Because of you, someone's living. Because of you, someone's smiling. And just for you, so many of us are praying.
