anticipation + dread = results
Finally. My dreaded yet anticipated results are here. Here goes:
English - B3
Higher Chinese - A2
E.Maths - A2
A.Maths - B4
Chemistry - B4
Physics - B3
Combined Humanities - C6
Geography - A2
Chinese - A1
L1R5 - 15
It's somewhat disappointing, I guess. But then again, I am quite okay with the overall results, given the amount of time I spent studying. And slacking. =)
I can't freaking believe I got an A2 for Geography! It's my worst paper ever. Worst of the worst. Worst of the worst of the worst. Eeks. It irks me to have missed my A1. Forget it. Rocks and plants and clouds and whatever not, I will CONQUER you and make you my slaves by the time I sit for my Olevels!
And E.Maths. A2! How wonderful. A1s don't seem to like me this prelims. WHY?
Yucks. I'm disgusted with the close shave I had with a better grade. For TWO subjects. 64 for both Chemistry and AMaths. EEKSS!!!
If I miss getting my ass into ACJC for that one point. Hoho.
Then I SWEAR I will..
just make do with JJC for the 1st three months.
Anyway, I think this round of exams is a pretty good gauge for me. Heh, and built up my confidence in Sciences. And Combined Humans, although I scored a whopping 19 outta 50 for Social Studies. Mr. Lee Kuan Yew should hang me.
I will pocket STRAIGHT As for Olevels!
And for that I'll have to quite a number of TV shows. Hmm... But well, whatever it takes!
I do not dread the long days I will face in school.
I do not dread the nights without my favourite TV shows.
I do not dread books being my only hot dates for ONE month 3 weeks = 7 weeks = 50 days = 1200 hours = 7200 minutes = ... Okay, I have to get it outta my mind.
I do not dread my monotonous life.
I do not dread locking myself in my room to study.
I look forward to disappearing from the face of Earth to be a professional mugger!
Books and papers, here I come!

hit the shops!

hit the shops!
I did something that I haven't done in a long time today.
SHOPPING!
Yes, I hit town with Sarah and Peiyan today. I felt kinda... out of place in town. Like I haven't been there for too long. In fact, I think I've lost touch with shopping. Exams had eclipsed my life.
Let me share with you the three main syndromes of having lost touch with shopping.
1. You feel lost and aimless as you wander from shop to shop. You know you just wanna buy something, but amazingly, nothing appeals enough to you.
2. Your poor feet starts screaming for help in their heels after a really short period of time.
3. You start thinking of going home when you've only been out for less than 3 hours, because the shops are too crowded and you're getting tired.
Yes, that's basically how I felt today. And I just felt so wonderfully great after combing the whole of Far East Plaza and The Heeren, and still not find a pair of earings that I like.
God, puh-leese bestow me with shopping skills so that I can shop in joy again. =D
Anyway, due to the strong desire to just buy something for goodness's sake, I settled for a black and purple Volcom belt at the end of the day. Now I'm starting to wonder if the belt would match most of my bottoms. Pray for me that it doesn't end up sleeping in my closet. =)

freaky stuffs
freaky stuffs
I've been encoutering quite a number of freaky incidents recently.
The other night, I stayed up to study while everyone else slept. When I went out to the kitchen to brush my teeth, I saw a frame of light across the hall, at the end of the dining room. The light in the storeroom was on. That was unusual in my house, but being Mengqi, I didn't dare to check it out.
I ran back to my room and grabbed the scotch-tape holder (its weight made a good weapon) and hurried into the toilet and rushed through my teeth-brushing (I seldom do that; I find it gross to have uncleaned teeth). When I was done and switched off the light in the kitchen, I turned and there was no longer light spilling out through the storeroom door. I sprinted to my room.
Okay, now I've got to decide what to do. Sleep. Sleep and forget all about it. But I couldn't get it out of my mind when I lay down. I decided to take a peep at the storeroom again.
The light was on again! My, I was seriously freaked out. I played some piano music and soothed myself to sleep. The next day my brother admitted leaving the light on, and my mom laughed at me.
But... why did the light go off? Maybe my eyes were playing tricks on me. Or maybe...
Two days ago, I woke up at five-thirty in the morning to study. Fifteen minutes into studying, I heard a buzzing sound coming from behind me. I turned and saw a bee-like bug kinda bouncing on the floor near the door. It was big. Being a victim of bug-o-phobia, I crawled back into bed and pulled the covers over me.
The bug freaking landed on my covers right in front of my face! If I hadn't had the cover over me... *Shudders*
Anyway, I shook the blanket and the bug dropped off. I think (well, I couldn't see). After awhile, I was getting pretty warm, as I've switched off the air-con and opened the windows. But I was still afraid that the bug would be on my bed.
I groped around, making sure that I was well-covered by my blanket all the time, and found my handphone. I called Mummy. But she couldn't find the bug when she came over into my room. I moved to the dining hall to study.
Then today, as I sat watching TV with my Mummy in the living area, a real gigantic bug battered about in the dining hall. Wanting to show Mummy I wasn't as dainty as she thought, I kept quiet. Then the damned bug just had to fly across right in front of me.
I did just about the bravest thing I could have done in the situation.
I gave a little yelp and treaded across the sofa and went to stand on one of the dining chairs.
I made Mummy check my room thoroughly, to make sure I wouldn't encounter the disgusting thing when I went into the room later. She told me the bug properly flew out, since she didn't see it anywhere. I went into my room, waiting for the light to come on first, looked around real thoroughly, braced for an ugly sight. When I saw nothing, I went to close the windows and close the door on my way out.
Then I saw it. Perched on the corner of the wall above the hifi-set. I jabbed my Mum and tilted my chin towards the thing.
It was a freaking humongous COCKROACH! About the length of my index fingers and feelers the length of my hair (okay, that's exaggerated but the size is for real). And the roach freaking flew! Can you even begin to imagine? Crawling roaches are already disgusting beyond words! This one flies.
Doing what I'm best at, I ran back into my room. My last sights being Mummy poking at the thing with a bamboo stick.
I kowtow Mummy. While waiting for her to slay the damn creature that can survive without its head and gets starved to death, I looked furtively around my room, fearing some unknown counterpart of the gross thing lying in waiting. And I thought "God, if there's some bug in my room and I ran out into the flying roach, I think I'll just jump out of the window."
But my beloved mama had bravely conquered the thing and redcued it to a pulp of juice and flesh in a wad of tissue in the wastebasket.
I'm getting creeps in my scalp even as I write about it now.
But Mummy had to make me empty the wastebasket at the rubbish chute outside. Not wanting to risk pissing her off, I took the plastic bag, and went to the rubbish chute.
I couldn't dig out the courage to open it, as my imagination painted pictures of countless roaches flying out at me. I left the bag of rubbish beside the rubbish chute. I do hope some kinda neighbour would throw the rubbish for me before Mummy discovers it tomorrow morning.
Anyway, these few incidents are seriously freaking me out. I'm constantly looking around, especially behind me, to make sure no buzzing or flying or unknown creatures are hovering, lying in wait to scare the nuts outta me. I'm slipping into paranoia.
I think I should ask Mummy to call some bug company to sterilize the house.

at long last
at long last
Prelims. Are. Finally. OVER! Woohoo! It has been almost a month of mugging, mugging and more mugging. I am going to do some serious catching up of fun till I get my results, so that I'm recharged for another round. =) This time it'll be the final battle.
Okay, let me do a little review on the exams.
Higher Chinese was the first paper. I think I screwed up my composition. My argumentative was kinda off-topic. =( My A1 is endangered.
English was pretty okay. The comprehension was kinda tough, and I didn't really have time to properly end my composition.
Combined Humans was the usual. I do what I can but I really have no idea how I did. My marks fluctuate for each test.
Chemistry was manageable. I'd say it's a fair paper.
Physics was outright easy. But a pity I fell asleep while studying, and woke up just in time for school.
A.Maths Paper One was such a killer. Paper Two was okay, except that Mengqi the slow-coach didn't have time to finish the paper.
E.Maths was fairly easy.
Geography. I'd thought my A1 was in jeopardy after Paper Two. Mdm Ros. is damn tricky. But Paper One helped quite abit.
Now, I carelessly await judgement day to arrive on Tuesday.
Meanwhile...
I went to play pool with Peiyan, Sarah, WeiXiang, JiaJun, Madian and ShengChuan today. Jiajun was the ultimate entertainment of the day.
Due to personal reasons, he was wearing a white Nike cap. When he took his first aim, he realized he couldn't really see the ball with the cap. So, he took it off.
Every single one of us bursted into laughter. His hair was just outright funny. For one, we were used to seeing him with his gelled up spikes. For two, his hair was stuck flatly to his scalp with CENTER-PARTING. Like right down the middle. It looked like a wig. On a mafia boss.
Anyway, Jiajun was pretty amused himself too. When we took pictures of him and he looked at them, he went "HAHA! Oh, dammit, even I am laughing." And then he went on to blame his ugly hair for losing so many games.
Hmm, I didn't quite figure out how does ugly hair and losing games go with each other. I was too busy laughing away.

ABCs our way

ABCs our way
"Brazil, donkey, brazil, cat, cat, cat, brazil, donkey, brazil, donkey, cat, donkey, donkey, donkey, apple..
"Wait, sorry, I was thinking what letter does apple start with.."
Sarah, Peiyan and I were trying to replicate the Geography ten-year-series multiple-choice answers MANUALLY. I think there were about say at least a thousand questions altogether. And that was what we ended up doing.
It was almost very brain-taxing, I tell you. Try jotting down 269 Apples, Brazils, Cats and Donkeys to you in about 6minutes while someone recites. At one go.
And it ain't no easy task reciting 200 over letters either! Below I share my personal experience.
"Cat, donkey, donkey, cat, donkey, donkey, donkey, donkey, brazil, apple, apple, cat, donkey, cat, cat, dog..."
Did you spot the difference? Yes! I suddenly said "dog" instead of "donkey" when I saw the letter D. It came real smoothly and naturally, so much so that I didn't realize it until both Peiyan and Sarah were staring at me.
I guess the mind cannot take such highly repetitive activities. It's funny how you would suddenly forget what a word means, or how to pronounce a word properly, after you repeat many times, isn't it? Or how it suddenly looks weird to you after you're made to spell it numerous times. Hmm... interesting mind we have.
Okay, this is a boring entry. That's what exams do to your life!
My dreams are much more interesting, aren't they? =D

catching up
catching up
Life has been pretty bland and rigid with the exams going on. So, 24 hours a day revolves around studying, sleeping, eating and going to school. And of course, TV time. =D
Anyway, I've been constantly waking up in a state of confusion. It's like the moment you open your eyes, everything that you've studied the night before comes flooding into your mind. And you can't quite figure out that you've just woken from a few hours' sleep and you're lying on your own bed, because the first things on mind are like "How do I differentiate lncos2x - 1?" or "What salts are soluble?". You get the feeling that you're in the world of Mathematics, Science or Geography, instead of in your bedroom. It isn't until I've mopped around the house on auto-pilot mode and had a shower before I really wake up.
On the topic of sleeping, I'm reminded that I keep having dreams recently. Very frequent dreams. And they are weird.
Hmm, just the other night I had such a... an unusual dream, okay, I should say nightmare, that actually jolted me awake. In that dream I was curling on the sofa in the living room, watching TV as usual. (Yes, TV rocks my socks so much that I even dream of it. =D) Then I noticed two house lizards on the wall above the TV set. They crawled to the ceiling, towards me. Another three lizards came and join the pair. So that makes five lizards on the ceiling, moving in my direction. I moved to the other sofa. No, I wasn't freaked out by mere lizards.
THEN
the lizards began to expand, like grow in size and just bloat up. Until they were the length of your forearm. AND their skin turned a brilliantly disgusting orange with black spots splattered all over their slimy bodies. Due to gravity, their flabby reptile skin were DANGLING. Those weren't mere lizards anymore.
I was getting somewhat afraid. Okay, I was scared to my toes.
SPLAT! One of them dropped, with a squish, onto the floor. And died.Well, at least it wasn't moving anymore. I was really scared. But being the coward that I am, I didn't dare to move.
I think the lizards have sensors for fear or something; the four skin-drooping creatures scurried towards me! In my virtual fear, I remembered they were really fast. So their skin goes on vibration mode. Flaps of orange skin with black spots trembling. I sat and stared. In my idiotic pose of shock and amazement, you know, with your eyes wide open and your mouth hanging open a little. Okay, forget it was me in that pose.
The next thing I noticed was something cold and slimy and scaly and MOVING in my lap. ONE OF THEM DROPPED ONTO ME! And the rest followed. Five huge lizards falling into my lap, crawling and licking and swipping their long disgusting orange-and-black tails. I felt their rough skin and wet tongues and sharp and digging claws. (Do lizards have claws actually?)
I woke up, utterly freaked out and disgusted. Brr!
Serve me right for watching so much TV during the exam period.

little secrets
little secrets
Sarah did some chacha today.
Peiyan did some chacha today.
I...
sat and watached and laughed.
You wanna learn? You position your hands at your hips, in the pose of brisk-walking. Then you twist your hips from side to side and swing your arms wildly and shake your head till your hair's all messy. Oh yes, do it in front of the mirror. Enjoy!
We played a game of hide-and-seek at my smallish house today. Yes, we are sixteen. =D Sarah was freaked out when we searched the whole house and couldn't find Peiyan. She doesn't dare to open the closets and search the store room. She even asked me to look into the built-in cupboards under the windows. How can anyone squeeze inside there?? Haha. And guess where was Peiyan hiding?
In the closest in my room, laughing her head off.
Haha. I misled Sarah by telling her that Peiyan went to hide in my brother's room and told me to tell her that she's studying there while Sarah went to the toilet.
So that was how Peiyan went missing in my house and scared Sarah.
Anyway, here's a conversation that might tickle you. For the sake of reputation, I shall let the people mentioned remained unknown. Let the unknowns be x, y and z,in this case.
Y: X, why were there the sound of running water in the toilet when you were supposed to be shitting?
X: Oh, I was washing my legs and playing with the water.
Y wondered about it.
Five minutes later, Z went to the toilet.
Z: X, how did you clean up just now? I used the last bit of toilet paper when I used the toilet before you. And there's no toilet paper now.
X: Err.. erm... You know the sound of the running water? I just washed up since there was no toilet paper.

a minute of silence
A minute of silence for those who lost their lives four years ago when the twin towers of American came crashing down in the most nightmarish way. My heartfelt condolences and deepest sympahty for all their family and friends.

some fresh air
some fresh air
After a whole afternoon of studying at the KFC at Gek Poh (it was freezing there), I took a walk around the neighbourhood with PeiYan. It was a beautiful evening, not too hot, and with a little breeze to lift our hair. There were many many many birds chirping in the trees. And these birds, they seem to only like three particular trees. They held my attention for a while, as I stood there, watching them fleet from tree to tree. I must have looked pretty idiotic though. =D
It's been such a long time since I've broke out of my everyday routine to actually take a stroll and just enjoy walking. And with a friend by your side to listen to you rattle off whatever that comes to mind... Exams? Haha, screw you. For the moment.
Life in Singapore is so fast-paced and everyone's always rushing from place to place. But if you slow down a little, get off the fast-lane and take some time to breathe, you'll feel a whole lot different.
And you'll see a whole lot of different things. Like rats running around in the bushes instead of in the drain. Huge, fat rats with long long tails. Heh, now you know what's walking with you at night. Oh, we saw this guy jogging, panting and puffing. He was wearing shorts.
And a windbreaker zipped up to his neck.
Oh well, I guess it takes all sorts to enjoy the evening.

football vs rugby
football vs rugby
I caught the movie "The Longest Yard" today. It was damn nice. Funny, touching, light-hearted, but strong enough to drive home the point. I laughed so much through-out the movie.=)
The story's about a ex-superstar football-player who never cared for a single soul in his life, who got his ass into prison and got to know a bunch of real friends through football there. The inmates formed a team and had a match with the prison guards, and Crewe (the main lead) was supposed to sell out on his team to rid himself of a murder accuse, just like he did his team before his football career ended. Who won? You guess (for the sake of those who wants to catch the movie).
Anyway, there were A LOT of beefy and absolutely gigantic guys in the movie, who starred as inmates. God, some of them were real cute! As in, they are that huge in size, but they have the emotional level of a 6-year-old kid. And I wondered where they found the actors. Oh yea, the main lead's pretty hot, though I don't know his name. Well, Brad Pitt's still hotter.
The greatest thing I learnt from the movie, is that football, is actually what we would call... oh dammit, the word won't come to me. I keep thinking olive. You know, the oval shape ball. OH YES! Rugby, not soccer. I'd thought the quarterbacks mentioned in all those high-school girlish books I used read were soccer players. I've been such a mountain tortoise, I know.
I guess I'll end off with my quote from the movie.
"Superstar versus half-a-star!"
Who won? You guess (for the sake of those who wants to catch the movie).

my healthy lifestyle
my healthy lifestyle
If you have happen to be at any Jurong East Library or Woodlands Library just before 10am, the official opening time, please do not be mistaken. There is no Great Singapore Sale going on there. People are just there to, well, "book" seats. Talk about kiasuism.
If you've been to any of the regional libraries, you'd realize it's the latest teen-hangout. My! These places are getting popular!
I was at Woodlands library to study with Cynthia today and we were pretty amazed at how fast people dashed up the escalators the moment the library opened its door. Ladies we were, we took our time and settled for the Galilee Cafe. Few opted there. Odd. It's a nice place to study.
Yesterday, I went to Jurong East Library with Sarah, WX, Matin and SC. We walked two rounds just to find a place to sit on the floor. Kids in Singapore lack places to hang out!
Pool with SongHui, Benedict and ZhongChi was fine today. I WON one game. Oh well, Songhui had to whack his white ball in with the black one. *Shrugs*
Okay, now I've got to tell myself: STUDY! How could I still be playing pool now? I need to STUDY STUDY and STUDY.
But, just yesterday, I went to swim with Sarah. See, healthy people like us need to excercise! So, studying has to wait again. =))
Anyway, there was this really interesting uncle swimming in the morning. His freestyle is so slow-motioned that I couldn't believe he was actually moving! Wow, and he swam laps and laps. And his breast-stroke - he doens't follow the standard hand movements; he just pumps them forward, and he also moves! And mind you, he can swim as fast as I do when he wants. I was so amazed.

do bears eat grass?
do bears eat grass?
"The bear is eating grass!"
"NO! It's eating a fish, for goodness's sake!" Madian argued.
"Where got fish green colour one? Okay, now I see it's eating grass." Sarah realized.
"It is eating a freaking fish." Madian went again.
"There are no green freshwater fishes lor," I said
"But it's moving! It's the poor fish struggling for its life. Grass doesn't struggle."
"The bear's chomping the grass, and there's wind, so the grass moves." Peiyan tried.
"No, it's not even green! Bear doesn't eat grass. It is a bloody grey fish!"
I'd post the picture up here the first chance I get. I swear the bear was eating grass, although there is very weird. Anyway, if you ever go to MacDonald's, pay attention to the endless video playing, and STARE hard at the documentary section. And if you overhear people arguing, tell them: "The poor bear is eating GREEN GRASS." *Shakes head*

wild wild wet whines
wild wild wet whines
The whole family made a trip downtown to the other side of the island. I had to drag myself out of bed at EIGHT in the morning. Thanks to my little brother's relentless pleas to go to Wild Wild Wet. Kids never get sick of playing, I guess. He just spent a whole day there on Wenesday. Anyway, it was Daddy's company's Family Day, and there were free tickets.
So off we went to Wild Wild Wet. Only to wait. And wait. And wait a little longer. And wait...
We sure got wet, in the rain that came pattering down. The shelters were bursting from the number of people squeezing in there. It so damn crowded. And I started to wonder if I had misplaced a boulder or two in my bag. Suddenly I wished I was at Hawaii taking part in Survivor. It can't be much worse. Oh, I didn't even have to change into my swim wear. The rain spared me the trouble by closing all the rides. Good thing I didn't too - there were THOUSANDS of banglas just standing there staring and staring at the people running around. For goodness' sake! It didn't feel like Singapore at all! I felt like I was lost in... Bangla-land? There was simply too many of them. Oh, I actually talked to one of them. It was a short and sweet conversation.
"Scuse me. I want know where the charging route?"
"Huh? Charging road? Erm, there is no road here. You have to go outside." I answered politely, gesturing towards the exit.
"No, no. Charging route, know? Place err people charge?" he struggled.
Daddy came over. And he pointed to the toilet.
Banglas and ladies named Mengqi do not go together at all.

friends and laughter
friends and laughter
Julia came over on Thursday, in hope of being motivated by me to do some serious mugging the whole afternoon. Well, being us, we decided it was too beautiful a day to spend with books and papers. So, we spent the beautiful afternoon watching A Walk To Remember on DVD. We laughed a great deal and cried a small deal. =) It was a fantastically romantic movie, very nice for a ladies-only afternoon. All we lacked were facial masks and strawberry ice-creams. It was great fun being couch potatoes.
At night we caught the finals of Project Superstar together. WEILIAN won. Hmm, I was all for Kelly, but well, I do admire the man for his courage and having his dream fulfilled when it seemed so impossible.
A very girly day spent.
Went to the MacDonalds at Taman Jurong to study with Peiyan, Madian and SongHui today. Of course I had to be late again. Of course my dear friend had to be later than me. And OF COURSE we both had perfect reasons to be late. Well, we were supposed to be earlier than Madian, but we ended up meeting him at the bus terminal instead. Wonderful late queens we are. It was a fine studying session, the place was nice and quiet, BUT, well let's put it this way: I was concentrating too much on enjoying the environment instead.
Hmm, then, due to some reason forgotten, PeiYan, SongHui and me ended up in e cat-fight. Well, we were erm, trying to pinch his nipples. Gentle SongHui inflicted a scratch on my wrist. I really should have left him a bite mark. That was my exercise for the day.
