ifg & sunig

ifg & sunig

So a gazillion years ago, I played in the Inter-Faculty Games (IFG) for netball and touch rugby. It was good fun! It's been quite some time since I played netball, and I was very glad to be back on court. :D Touchrug, on the other hand, was pretty damn gross because of the muddy field, no thanks to the rainy season back then. It was more of a mud bath than anything else.

Arts came in 3rd for both netball and touchrug, so hurray! Well, at least all that mud got us somewhere I guess. Hahaha.

With the netball team after one of our games.

Then on the Sunday preceding Term Break (which was... hold on, let me flip my calender, 21 SEPT), I played in the Singapore University Games (SUNIG) for NUS Touchrug. I was really surprised and happy to be in the team this time round! Afterall, I've only been playing the sport for 3months now.

It was long and draggy day, with breaks stretching up to 3hours. We were in school from 8.30am to 6pm just to play for a total of about 55mins.

It was a good experience for me, and I learnt alot from the game situations. Such as, always arrive on time so that you have enough time for warm up. Because I didn't know that I'd be playing, I came late and didn't have a proper warm up. And in the first game, while I was chasing this girl whom I was sure that I was gonna catch, I actually felt my knees buckle and give way! I fell flat on my face, and she went ahead to score a try.

I was so embarassed and upset! ): Thank goodness we had a 2point lead. What can I say? We learn from our mistakes huh. Haha.

We came in 2nd overall, after playing to a 3vs.3 dropoff against NTU. Good job, girls! (:

My first medals with NUS!

pink umbrella

pink umbrella

Rain pouring.
The sky gloomy.
All around me, pitter patter.

Chattering, laughter, people.
An inward smile,
as I waited.

The blues, the greys, the blacks.
Darkness, a background.
Then you, pink umbrella in hand,
walking out of the dark.

Giggles, squeals, girly whispers.
Cheeks burning with warmth,
we go out into the rain.

There, the two of us,
a splash of colour in the night.

7.30am, along the walkways in school.
Oh, the peace of bright and clear mornings like these.
Hurhur, I do surprise myself sometimes.

coffee break

coffee break

After a whole day at the computer, comparing drafts and editing mundane little mistakes, and trying to come up with better ideas, I walked away from my work to meet Peiyan for coffee. (: We caught up on the past few weeks, shared stories, got to know the respective new people in our lives through these stories, and just sat as Saturday night swept past us.

I think it was a break that I very much needed. It's been a couple of crazy weeks since school started after the break - tests, assignments and projects. I haven't been seeing so many people! And thus this evening was exceptionally refreshing.

Long chats with an old friend over coffee on a Saturday evening - one of the best things in the world.

farewells and goodbyes

farewells & goodbyes

The last few weeks haven't been so good. They saw two farewells and another two airport scenes. First was Phuay's farewell, then Shiyan's, then Phuay's flight and finally Kaiyi's flight. And Shiyan is flying off this Sunday as well. Everyone is going down South! ):

The night Kaiyi flew off, it hit me for the first time that half of my closer group girlfriends are no longer in Singapore. I AM SAD. I can't wait for the end of year, when most of them will be coming back. We are really all growing up huh.

So anyways, here are the long overdue pictures from the gatherings. There were hardly any airport shots, because well, Kai was rushing into the departure hall, and it was even more of a mad rush with Phuay. Will elaborate later!

The greatest shopping buddies.

Hahaha we made the boys set up the BBQ pit just so that we can have smores!

With the 2 who are flying off to Aussie.

Group photo! (:

And now the story. I was in town watching Mama Mia (it's a good show btw! Perhaps another entry on that.) with Glenn the evening Phuay was flying off, since her flight was a late one, at 1145hr. So Sarah came to meet me at 10pm, since I drove.

But alas, being a new driver with zero sense of direction, I COULDN'T FIND THE FREAKING PIE OR ANYTHING OTHER EXPRESSWAYS TO TAKE! So while I drove around aimlessly, trying to head in the general East direction, Sarah was busy calling people up, trying to ask for directions. And strangely enough, NO ONE KNEW! All of them told me they'll call me back, but everytime they do, I'm at a different place already! It was completely pointless.

So in the end, based on gut feeling and road signs, I went past Great World City, Zouk, Clark Quay, and finally ended up in the CBD and found the ECP. From there, I drove like an F1 racer. Okay not really, I did drive pretty fast, hitting 120km/hr at my fastest, and the suddenly we were along the airport road!

To save time, I stopped right outside the departure hall. Sarah ran in and caught Phuay just as she was walking through the gates. It was such a drama! I didn't go in because I didn't dare to leave the car in the No Parking zone with all the authoritative-looking uniformed people milling around. ):

So that's the story about us almost missing Phuay's flight. Then there was the story about how Phuay and I met at a random petrol station along Bukit Timah Road cos we weren't sure where Shiyan's place was. Hahaha quite fun following her car. Yay female P-plate drivers hog the road! :D And here are more pictures from Shiyan's farewell.

The theme was '50s - '60s! Look at Shiyan's cute puffy skirt. Hahaha.

Hockey girls! Still going strong more than a year after season. (:

WeeMeng pimping while all the boys disappeared outside.

With Ashley, Shiyan and Khooooo.
I think it's the first time I see her in jeans!

With Glenn Chee, who so didn't dress according to the theme.
Omg I need to find that picture I took with Malone. He was SO dressed! HAHA.

[/Edit: And I found the picture with Malone!]
With Clare, Malone and Person A. Hahaha.

And the three babes I'll miss. ):
Take care in Aussieland, and come home soon!

miss you, bimbo 3!

miss you, bimbo 3!

Rushing, as usual, and therefore the blur photo. Hahaha.

I can't believe you're in another continent already, Kai! It's been strange not seeing you online all the time. Who am I going to chat with in the middle of lecture and who am I going to complain to when the person behind me spills me vanilla latte? I'm gonna miss you so much. ):

Please come home soon, my two bimbos! And meanwhile, 3-way MSN (a usual) and 3-way Skype (okay, we've got to work this one out) in matching PINK/PURPLE fonts! :D

technological misery

technological misery

This is the plight of an university student rushing out her project. Yeah, I do my work on both my MacBook and my desktop, because well, there are too many documents to open at the same time, and switch between windows is too much trouble.

And yes, I shrank the windows just so that I can show off the wallpapers. Haha! My only solace amongst the misery of the piling workload. Sometimes I gaze at the pictures and drift off. Talk about escapism!

Okay, and back to morphemes and clauses and whatnot.

Post-Script: Real updates soon! (:

on the roads

on the roads

I drove out all by myself today! First time since I passed my driving about 2 weeks back. It was hilarious, seriously. I knew heading out alone, and having to hit the highway wasn't going to be the smoothest first-time, but it was pretty exciting!

First, I had to drive all over the place looking for a freaking probation plate, cos the one at home went missing. In the end, I wound up at a petrol station next to a POLICE STATION. Hahaha how smart is that? Best of all, I drove out through the ENTRANCE, wondering why was there only one arrow on the ground.

Thank goodness Nut was on the phone with me the whole time! I managed to get to school without making any wrong turns, or crashing into anyone on the AYE. Haha.

But but, I cannot park without the poles to save my life. Seriously, I needed 2 parking lots to get the damned car in, and still ended up with the car slanted in the lot. I GIVE UP! It's impossible.

And when Glenn was in the car with us on the way to Nut's place since I was dropping her off, he held on to the handholds the whole time, claiming his life was in danger. I've got faithless friends! Tsk. But credits to him, who without a license, taught me how to do a 3-point turn so that we can go back to Clementi for dinner. Haha!

More driving over the weekend, and I'm heading to the airport on Sunday. Hurhur. I think all you weak-hearted people had better stay at home! :D
