funorama the 19th

funorama the 19th

Gosh, I can't believe that I'm more than 2weeks behind in my entries. Funorama was on 29th March and it's already 14th April!

Anyways, it was a hot (literally) and bustling affair, with throngs of people milling all over the school and kids screaming and hopping all around. The carpark, canteen, void deck, hall, LTs on the second floor, lobby were all converted to food/games/AC merchandise stalls and everywhere was crazily packed. The weather was absolutely stifling until it started to rain abit in the late afternoon, thank goodness.

For a good part of my time there, I just sat at the bleachers with SongHui and Ben, whiling time away, because it was simply too hot to do anything else! Even the food failed to appeal to me. I only stared going around the place when the rain cooled things abit, but sent everyone indoors and started the trend of wet feet, yucks! I spent all of my coupons buying cold drinks, playing funny games during which I aimed the damn gun towards myself and almost shot me to death with tennis balls, and winning Dove shampoo. Hahaha.

More than anything else, I just really enjoyed being back in school with my favourite people, exclaiming loud Hellos to friends who I haven't seen for quite some time and seeing familiar faces. A place where everyone knows your name. I think I've been missing that quite abit. The whole meeting new people and/or spending time alone thing is just not comparable.

We look so radiant and pink here! :D

SongHui and Ben, bumming at the bleachers. Haha.

Then I found Fran's boyfriend and took this picture for her!

Hockey girls! ((:

Netballers, HweeYi and Sarah.

At Azmi's stall with Peiyan.
His soccer game was just too potentially embarassing for me to risk trying.

The highlight of the afternoon though, was SongHui's incredible luck at the games, where he won a freaking mountain bike for a mere 3dollar game! And he didn't even play the game willingly; he was simply giving in to his cousin's badgering! On the first try, he hit the high score of the day and remained there right until they closed shop. Quite cool huh! Except that he had to ride his vehicle all the way to the Jack's Place at Clementi while Sarah, Ben and I cruised by on a cab much later. HAHA.

Dinner worked out to be my birthday treat from SongHui, for last year's AND forgetting this year's. Hahaha. I had a Seafood Salad and took forever to decide how rare I want my coolass Fire Steak to be. I really should have risked looking like a mountain tortoise and taken a picture of the waiter setting my steak on fire before he served it! Nvm, I shall go and have the same steak again sometime just for the sake of taking that picture. Hahaha! Thanks for the yummy dinner, you bike-winner! (: And I always remember your 14th Nov birthday okay!

SongHui whisking away his 3dollar bike.

My salad with extra prawns and no crabsticks in the pretty (but dysfunctional) plate.
It threatens to overturn everytime we poke to close to the sides. Hahaha.

Us four, dead tired but happily fed! :D

vrroom!

vrroom!

That's the angry sound the car made when I first landed my foot on the accelerator today. The instructor told me to step on it gently so that the meter will hover somewhere between 1 and 2, but even with the greatest care mine shot up to like 5 or 6 immediately! Hahaha, I could only go WHOAAA in response. The damn thing is just too sensitive for its own good!

It was very fun and exciting to finally DRIVE THE CAR after series of lessons, practices and evaluation for the pathetic Basic Theory Test just so that I can get the PDL to sit at the wheel of the car. It's abit like learning about sex in your Sec 2 Science textbook and then finally trying out the act itself. HAHA okay I exaggerate. I am KIDDING. But you get the point.

So I learnt about releasing the clutch till the biting-point, moved the car front and back, then went around the circuit today! I am mostly okay, except that I always forget to step on the clutch pedal when I brake, which causes the car to vibrate violently then just stall and die. Hahaha. I also tried shifting into 2nd gear and going abit faster. Really thrilling!

Oh, and for the life of me I just cannot figure out if I'm in the middle of the lane or not. I keep forgetting that I'm on the right side of the car, and not in the middle so there I cannot expect to feel like I am in the middle of the road! Hahaha! I really think I lack the part of brains that makes you mathematically-abled.

I'm very much amazed at the way the instructor (I got a lady btw!) sits beside me with all the ease in the world, and after a few rounds in the circuit she actually started flipping through pages and looking at her own stuff! What if I did something stupid and crash into something and kill us both or something! Isn't she the least scared? After all it's my first time operating a vehicle! They must all be incredibly gusty.

I can't wait to start going for lessons regularly and hitting the roads! Whee! And hereby I pledge that I will try my very best not to be another of those female drivers! Haha!

this time of the year

this time of the year

I love this time of the year, when the prettiest of evening skies are right outside my window, instead of my brother's, like it is towards the end of the year. :D

The university application letters have been a pain of late, but it was pretty insipring sitting at my desk this evening, looking up at the brilliant colours, and trying to find the right words. It's one of those moments that you could lose yourself in. Glorious dusk.

a colour, a number, and a stadium of screams

a colour, a number, and a stadium of screams

Yes, I'm talking about the Maroon 5 concert! (: Quikz had an extra ticket, and asked me along, so there I was! We were supposed to have dinner at Tanglin Club at 5.30pm, but somehow I only managed to show up at 7pm. Hahaha.

We semi-rushed down in cab, and found our seats 10minutes before the lights dimmed and the screams started. Adam Levine took the stage in a plain white t-shirt and set the crowd wild. How can anyone look so damn hot, even from so far away? We were sitting at the top of the National Indoor Stadium, btw. Even I swooned immediately, despite not being a huge fan of them.

Besides ogling at the hot vocalist, I was also pretty impressed by the guitar playing, especially when Valentine and Levine run up to each and play face to face. Omg so hot! Shut up, I'm talking about the music now too okay, not entirely the people. Hahaha.

Neither of us being hardcore fans, we recognized about half the songs they performed and could even sing along to the parts where Levine thrusted his mike towards the crowd. "It's not over tonight. Just give me one more chance to make it right. I may not make it through the night. I WON'T GO HOME WITHOUT YOU..."

But okay, I admit there were embarassing moments from us lousy supporters too. Like the conversation below:

Quikz: "What's the tile of this song again?"
Me: "Wake Up Call."
Quikz: "Whhhaat?"
Me: "Wake Up Call!"
Quikz: "I can't hear you!"
Me: "WAKE UP CALL!"
Quikz: "When? What time?"
Me: "HAHAHA IT'S THE SONG TITLE!"

Yeah well. Hahaha. I guess other than the song Makes Me Wonder, I enjoy the old album alot more too. Which explains why I immediately leaped out of my seat with the rest of the 800 fans when they performed This Love! :D I also waited the whole night for She Will Be Loved, and turned out they were saving the best for last.

Overall, the concert was pretty sexy (coughsLevinecoughs) and enjoyable. It was, however, just a tad too short! The concert started at 8.30pm and by 9.40pm we were already outside, leaving the audience, yes even including me, hanging for more. "I’ve had you so many times but somehow I want more..." Okay, the concert has definitely made me a fan!

Oh and don't expect much from the pictures, because first, mine is just a normal camera that can only zoom so much and second, I didn't charge it properly and therefore couldn't afford to focus for long before choosing the best lighting and timing to snap. ): I will load up the few short videos soon when I have the time!

The stadium of screaming fans.

Peek-a-boo! Levine flashing some hot stuff!

Adam Levine on the guitar, on our side of the stage.

I think this is the best picture of the night.

And this one I stole from Ashley! Haha.

Right before they went off the stage,
after dummer Matt Flynn threw his sticks to the crowd.
Explains the craze!

sammie dates

sammie dates

Recently, I've been dating Sammie The Other Jobless alot for lunch and afternoon activities. Last Saturday, we went for lunch in town then to the NUS Law Open House together, and were totally awed by the awesome Bukit Timah Campus and the even more awesome people there. We figured it'll probably be quite convenient for us to be schoolmates because then we can even skip down to the good ol' CCAB together after class and play some hockey! Sounds great huh! Just that I have to get my ass into Law school first. Hoho.

Dinner at Pasta Fresca along 6th Ave afterward was delicious, despite all the fretting about getting into Law school and what to do if we don't get in ah. I can't believe I wore the exact same outfit that I wore to the exact same restaurant for a hockey outing about 6 months ago! Haha.

Monday was a continuation of our fruitless jobhunt in town! Oh and lunch was at the absolutely delicious Soup Spoon! I love the dip-bread-in-creamy-soup concept. :D We were both very satisfied! Our jobhunt, though unsuccessful again, took us to the deep Human Resource labyrinths of the RP on Scotts (which is a hotel, really). I bet you never knew this either - the managerial offices of hotels are SO NOT POSH at all! It's tucked away somwhere underground and the corridoors have concrete floors and those huge aluminium pipe thingies snaking all over the ceiling! It was quite an adventure!

Then we hopped over to the 13-storey National Library at Bugis to just smell some law books and breathe some law air. Hahaha. The place is amazing! The reference section is so impressive and the Central Lending Library had EVERYTHING. We both went home armed with 3 novels in our arms, and 2paragraphs of law books in our heads.

And that, is a picture of us nuaing at Cine on Tuesday before our movie. Lunch that day was at the Holland market with Yiwen, and we ran into Mr Mark Ng. Beef noodles was delicious and I thought sitting down for lunch with former teachers was really cool. (:

Step Up 2 was absolutely sizzling hot! Even thought Channing Tantum has gotten alot less hot from the Step Up, I don't know why. Sammie and I desperately wanted to do some grooves of our own right there in the cinema. The choreographing was fantastic, and it just makes you wanna dance right there! I personally thought Step Up was a great show, and would be hard to match up to, but the movie proved otherwise. Damn good show! The last dance just rocked the socks off the whole cinema!

I think I should really stop skipping my dance class on Sunday! And find a job to continue financing the class.

silent mode

silent mode

All those who know me well know that I like to talk. Alot. I like to share my stories, talk about everyday life, whine about the smallest things, discuss big ideas and dreams. Anything. As long as there's someone to listen, I'm happy to talk. Sometimes when no one's listening, I think I secretly talk to myself. Seriously.

Recently, due to a vicious viral attack, I developed a very sore throat and LOST MY VOICE. Like some kind of joke, I woke up a very, very hoarse and rough voice last Saturday, when I had planned to celebrate my birthday by having lunch and then a Kbox session with my friends! I strained to talk and chat the entire day, and by Sunday, it was completely gone. GONE. Not even a squeak. The best I could manage was a whisper.

It was terrible! I felt trapped within myself, isolated. My confidence level went down to 0.001, for I didn't know how to express myself without speaking. I was frustrated and short-tempered because the words at the tip of my tongue just won't come out. Even when I was left waiting for the longest time when I went to buy a new printer, I couldn't start being a bitch because I couldn't talk.

My goodness it was a total nightmare for me!

But over the past few days, I've also learnt to cherish this taken-for-granted gift of God even more. Corny as it is, but we do complain every so often about the tiniest of things and forget to be thankful for the simple gift of a perfect life. I don't mean perfect as in no problems, troubles or difficulties, but I think here, to simply be alive and fully functional, is having a perfect life.

Some things that amused me during this silent period include the salesgirl's attempt to match my manner of communication. I asked for a certain wallet in green when I was shopping for Mommy's birthday present by pointing at the wallet (in orange), then the colour green, after showing her the message "I have a sore throat and lost my voice" typed on my handphone. In return, she closed her index finger and thumb to form an Okay sign, and mouthed "OKAY!" to me. And then she went on to draw rectangles in the air, and hissed loudly at me, asking me if I wanted it wrapped in a box.

It was all very sweet of her and excellent service, but I don't know how she confused sore throat with the inability to hear. Haha!

Also, my brother started bossing everyone in the house around, ordering them to listen to my meek orders, because apparently he was bored out of his mind with no one to talk to at home, thus his anxiety for my recovery. But still, it was indeed a very rare privilege from him!

And now, my voice is more or less back, and I'm happily croaking away. :D And my brother? Back to bickering with me over the TV remote!

my croaking 19th

my croaking 19th

I've been MIA for so long, I know! Blame it on the photo-less new computer and highly annoying WIndows Vista. I don't even like to stay on the computer that much nowadays because I'm so lazy to get used to all the new things and transferring pictures from the old com and asking friends to send me the photos. Plus the uni applications are driving me mad!

So anyways, I celebrated my 19th birthday 2 Saturdays ago, on the 8th of March. I swear Someone up there is in the mood for jokes as of late. Or maybe my personal LadyLuck is on a holiday.

The initial plan was to head for a nice lunch at Giraffe, the cool restaurant at the Istana Park, and then for Kbox. But strangely, I woke up to a terribly hoarse voice in the morning and could hardly talk! The best I could manage was a crooaaaak. My voice was way lower than the boys', and the girls finally managed to persuade me out of the Kbox idea thought I really wanted to go. ):

But okay, nvm. Because I met Sarah first, we happily checked out Giraffe and were very excited because the place was so pretty! Then when Sammie and Fran came at about 2pm, the waiter came and inform us that THE LAST ORDERS WERE AT 2.30PM. Hellloooo? Half of my friends weren't even there yet and their last orders were at 2.30pm and they didn't think it'd be nice to inform us when we called to book a table for 1.30pm? WHICH BLOODY RESTAURANT HAS THEIR LAST ORDERS FOR LUNCH AT 2.30PM ANYWAYS! It should be called the freaking WHITE ELEPHANT instead of Giraffe please! Bleeeaaah.

That called for a total change of plans! We left the useless place and trooped over to the adjacent good ol' Glass House instead. :D My only concern was the famous amount of embarassment that the joyous staff of Fish&Co. always manage to put the birthday girl/boy through. As we polished up our main courses and no signs of embarassment screamed out to me, I was starting to relax and think MAYBE I'd get away with it for once!

THEN the staff came out with a CLOWN HAT and a home-made lemon cake! Turns out that Yiting baked a lemon cake after Fran sneakily asked me what's my favourite cake a couple of days ago and I totally didn't suspect a thing. THANK YOU YITING, SO VERY SWEET OF YOU! (((:

I was cordially invited to climb onto the chair, in my heels and dress, and I tried to snake my way out of it with my pathetic hoarse voice and obviously didn't succeed. It was REALLY embarassing trying to get onto the wicker chair and balance myself there in my impossible wedges and insanely high-maintainence (think stupidly delicate silk and chiffon) dress! When I finally got up there, they handed me a sparkler, much to my delight, and starting yelling their funky Happy Birthday Hoo Ha song, much to my dismay.

Hahaha okay la, the whole thing was quite fun and I was pretty much pampered with all the attention. :D This is one of those birthdays I'll really remember! THANK YOU FRIENDS! (:

With our Kbox plans ditched, we settled for our all-time favourite activity - ARCADE! We played the basketball game so much that our arms were freaking aching the next day okay. Hoho, AND I WAS CHAMPION AT DAYTONA FOR THE DAY! Only to get edged out of my throne by Malone even though his car flipped over at the very last second. I swear his was an accidental win. Haha!

After that we split ways, the girls went shopping abit, and at the end of the day Sarah and I were so tired we just plonked ourselves down at Starbucks (Sign language goes: 1. Stretch out all 5 fingers, then bring them back to meet your thumb. Repeat twice. 2. Rub your middle finger and index finger against your thumb. Repeat twice. Hahaha!) and had a very long chat, even though my voice was almost completely gone by then. She would say something, and I would mouth something back, and she would try and guess if she got all my words right. Haha! It takes real friends to have that kinda conversation okay!

Despite all that and being completely voiceless the 9th itself, I had a very fun birthday! THANK YOU, FRIENDS! To everyone who called and messaged me (some from AUSSIELAND, Bev and Karen), thank you very much too! (:

The useless Giraffe place!

I think this is such a cute picture of Yiting, Sarah and me. :D

The yummy lemon cake! It was really, really delicious.
THANK YOU BABE!

Me, with the clown hat and sparkler. Haha.

I actually managed to blow out the candle from that height!

Cutting the cake, and Fran couldn't stop telling me not to draw the knife out because it was bad luck. But Fran, I don't think these kinda things REALLY work for us even if we abide by ALL the rules, huh? Haha!

Sarah was holding what's left of my sparkler. Hahaha.

Group photo! (:

With Sammie lovely!

All the girls! Notice, Yiting closed her eyes here.

And then it was Sarah's turn. Haha!

Sarah babe and I.

Finally Fran is taller than Nick!
And Glenn goes, "OH really?" Hahaha!

With Fran my bimbo and ridiculously unlucky partner. :D

Our bimbo rings and manicures!

Dead serious drivers.

Well, Malone REALLY belongs to the Billionaire Boys Club!

Sammie and her violent smacking game.

Sarah and I at the uber tiring version of Bishi Bashi.
We actually ended up kneeling on the floor,
trying to complete the race with our ahcing arms!

I had a smashing 19th! :D

wettest wednesday ever

wettest wednesday ever

Awhile back, when Fran was still in sunny little Singapore, we took a little trip down to East Coast Park. We had the perfect plan - meet at Macs for breakfast (preferably the one at ECP, so that we can sit by the seaside and have nice little picnic), cycle along the scenic route, take in the sea breeze, feel the sun on our skins, find the little private beach, sit down, take pictures, breathe in everything.

HOWEVER. Yes, for us, unfortunately, the However has always been BIG. So HOWEVER, it turned out to be the wettest Wednesday ever possible! You won't even believe our luck.

We battled the sleep monsters and managed to get out of bed at 9.30am, which is really early for our record btw, and met at 10.50am at Clementi Macs for breakfast. Happy and excited, I skipped over to Macs and found the shutters down. It was dark and abandoned, even in the crowd of people milling around it. Lo and behold, Macs was CLOSED because THE BUILDING WAS GOING TO BE FREAKING DEMOLISHED!

Can you believe it?? Not renovation, not temporarily closed, but DEMOLISHED! I mean, what are the chances???

Not quite believing our luck, we hopped onto a cab, rushed to KAP while looking out for Macs along the way. We arrived at 11.10am and were still pretty happy, thinking Macs breakfast ends at 11.30am. But we hopped off the cab and into Macs only to see LUNCH MENUS and to our dismay, the staff announced No More Breakfast! ))): I swear tears welled up in Fran's eyes then and there. She was having one of those cravings, girls you know?

Pretty dejected, we hiked over to Bukit Timah Food Centre and had an alternative breakfast. Duck porridge and noodles, some soupy thingy, and sugarcane! Happy again, we took another hike to the back of Beauty World, to take a bus to Bedok so that we can take another bus to ECP.

Our alternative breakfast.

Passing by Little India!

The bus ambled along the whole Bukit Timah stretch and brought us to Little India, and then Geylang and then Kaki Bukit (where Mas Selamat grew up, btw) and finally to Bedok. We were tourist on the ride, taking pictures and wowing and everything we see. And then when we passed by a funeral parlour with wreaths placed outside, and Fran started saying "Oh you know those flowers for SHOPS' OPENING right.. blah blah." I was like, "FRAN! That is a funeral parlour!" Hahaha.

So anyways, after an hour odd, we finally reached faraway Bedok on the other side of the island and went in search of the elusive bus service to ECP. And guess what? We found the bus stand, yes, and also a piece of paper that read: (SERVICE IS OPERATING ONLY ON SATURDAY, SUNDAY AND PUBLIC HOLIDAYS). Whaaaaat?! After an hour odd's bus ride???

Left with no choice, we hopped into another cab, and headed to ECP, thinking, "Well, at least it hasn't rained." Hoho, the closer to ECP we got, the darker the sky got! And by the time we got out of the cab, it was drizzling already.

It was a -_- moment, really. No other words for it.

Nevertheless, we managed to get our bikes (both pink, don't even comment) and cycled for a good 20minutes before the drizzle picked up into a steady, decent rain. We sprinted for shelter, and were stuck there for a good half hour playing Stress and Speed with my deck of Poker cards until the cards got abit soggy. Still, the skies didn't show any signs of clearing up.

So the moment the rain let up a little, we ran out - Fran pedaling furiously to the toilet to wait for me while I ran (while pushing my bike) to this electrical box thing (??) near Bedok Jetty so that I can hide behind there and take off my new white Roxy top (just so happens huh) that my classmates got me for my birthday because otherwise the hind wheel of the bike will spray a whole line of ugly muddy stuff on my shirt! Poof, that was a hideously long sentence.

Gosh, you won't know how FREEZING COLD it can get in tropical Singapore until you cycle in the rain in your sports bra and fbt shorts. It was, excuse my French, fucking cold! The teeth-chattering cold. The wanna-crawl-into-warm-blankets-and-sleep-forever. The cycling-in-the-rain-in-your-sports-bra cold. Unbelievable!

Finally we got back to the food centre place, and by then we were starving already. Had our second round of food in the lonely rain and found our energy to battle the wretched weather again. And just as we were leaving the place, I actually thought to myself, "Actually it wasn't half bad already, considering we were actually sitting in a shelter and eating some warm food when it was pouring the heaviest!"

Hur. HURHUR. 2 minutes into our journey back to the impossibly far away rental stall, IT STARTED POURING DONKEYS AND COWS. And me, poor me, I was still only in my bright orange sports bra! Cycling in that damn half piece of clothing may look cool as can be on TV, but trust me, it wasn't one bloody bit of fun! As if that wasn't enough, we had to pass by testoserone-driven army boys who were jogging in the rain who wolf-whistled at me.

To that, I actually yelled back "WHAT THE HELL, DO I LOOK LIKE I'M HAVING FUN? IT'S FUCKING COLD, YOU ASSHOLES!" Okay, not nearly as vulgar as I'd like it to be, but yeah, something along that line.

We eventually got back to the dry little bicycle hut drenched but alive, and just stood there staring at each other for the longest time - Is this day real?

As if to answer our question, just as we were about to make a sprint to the shelter next to the road to get a cab home (before 4.30pm to beat the surcharge), donkeys and cows morphed into SPERM WHALES AND DINOSAURS. That was the moment we gave it up. We still dashed for that huge umbrella in the middle of nowhere, next to the road, and laughed so hard at ourselves that we stopped running and walked the rest of the distance there in the pouring rain. It didn't make much of a difference anyway.

It turned out the umbrella there was to the shelter the carpark charging machine, so every dry person in their dry vehicle would pass us by! One fat moron of a guy actually rolled down his window, and start chuckling at us! What an idiot!

I almost didn't believe it when the first cab we flagged actually stopped and took us in despite our drenched selves at 4.36pm. FINALLY.

And the icing on the cake? 3 minutes into the cab ride, just as we were passing the majestic Singapore Flyer, Mr Sunshine stuck his fat head out of the clouds, said a giant Hello, and painted the whole sky a brilliant blue.

You know those "My Worst Day" essays you write in Primary school? Well, I think we lived it. And none of this is even exaggerated. Now, say "Man, I can't believe your luck!"

We really should have known right from the to-be-demolished building, huh?

Our pink bikes, side by side.

Girly bikers!

Castles by the sea.

Me: "Let's take a photo with the wind in our hair!"
Fran: "And the sand in our eyes right."
HAHA.

We left our mark.

Fran loves Nick!

HAHAHA read this out loud.

Finally at the food centre.

Second meal of the day.

The camera was wet and the photo turned out fuzzy!
Okay kidding, I've no idea why this photo's like that too.

And here's us, drenched and laughing at our sorry day at the bike stand.

You know, Fran and I were saying maybe this is God's way for making her miss Singapore less when she leaves for NZ. Or maybe God wants to test our friendship. But eventually we figured, maybe God just wants us to remember our days even when most of it becomes a blur. (:
