on the roads

on the roads

I drove out all by myself today! First time since I passed my driving about 2 weeks back. It was hilarious, seriously. I knew heading out alone, and having to hit the highway wasn't going to be the smoothest first-time, but it was pretty exciting!

First, I had to drive all over the place looking for a freaking probation plate, cos the one at home went missing. In the end, I wound up at a petrol station next to a POLICE STATION. Hahaha how smart is that? Best of all, I drove out through the ENTRANCE, wondering why was there only one arrow on the ground.

Thank goodness Nut was on the phone with me the whole time! I managed to get to school without making any wrong turns, or crashing into anyone on the AYE. Haha.

But but, I cannot park without the poles to save my life. Seriously, I needed 2 parking lots to get the damned car in, and still ended up with the car slanted in the lot. I GIVE UP! It's impossible.

And when Glenn was in the car with us on the way to Nut's place since I was dropping her off, he held on to the handholds the whole time, claiming his life was in danger. I've got faithless friends! Tsk. But credits to him, who without a license, taught me how to do a 3-point turn so that we can go back to Clementi for dinner. Haha!

More driving over the weekend, and I'm heading to the airport on Sunday. Hurhur. I think all you weak-hearted people had better stay at home! :D

school break: mambo!

school break: mambo!

The one week has been good! I was kept busy with touchrug trainings, tuitions, (too) short study sessions in between, and catching up with friends. (: I've also been indulging in lazy mornings and pretty late nights. Some mornings I take an entire hour to roll out of bed!

So anyways, I met Glenn for dinner after his tuition, which is one minute away from my house. We're both waiting to see who's gonna kill the boy first. (We're teaching the same kid; him Math and me Chinese and English.) It's nice to have someone to complain to though. Hahaha.

Trooped off to Zouk to meet the girls for Mamboooo afterwards. It was so madly packed! The uni kids enjoying the week off school and the army boys having their block leave. There was barely space to walk, much less dance.

I was happy to see so many people though! All the faces that have disappeared since school started. Life's been too busy! It was fun while I was there, shouting above the music, imitating funny moves, downing Apple shooters and camwhoring with the girls. I left at the record time of 12.45am becauase there was touchrug training the next morning. Hahaha. Till the next one!

With Phuay and Sarah at Velvet Underground.

And Sammie! Haven't seen her for the longest time.

Hellooo you all!

Half of Sarah, Keith Toh & Seets, who's always not looking at the camera somehow.
Hahaha.

And my favourite photo of the night!

time

time

Chasing time, we never win.
Out of breath, we pause.
Take a stroll while the world is asleep.

I walk alongside, a contented sigh.

Stories, dreams, and secrets.
We live in a fleeting moment, full of these.
Time, always ticking, finds us.

I let go, a backward glance.

Strangers, dockets, and reality.
A locket of time, dangling at my chest.
So close to heart.

Run, we need to run for our lives.
What do I do with someone like you?

shopping - serious stuff

shopping - serious stuff

Being crazily occupied with school means that I haven't had time to shop very much of late. So when Glenn asked me to go shopping with him on Friday, I hit the shops like a mad woman.

It was so funny; he was the one who needed to get a new bag, new sandals and a whole lot of other stuffs, but before he put anything over the counter, I was already armed with a lovely cardigan from Zara (finally!), a pouch for Sarah (because I can't bare the state of her pencilcase anymore. Hahaha.) and a pair of boots for touchrug! He was amazed.

We went ALL over Orchard Road, trying to cancel items off our respective shopping lists. So much walking in my new heels! By the time we were done at 10pm, I suddenly realised that I forgot my dad's present! Eeks!

So we trudged all the way back to Tangs from Centrepoint, just so that I can pick out a nice wallet for him. Late night shopping were made for people like us, I swear. But in the end we still forgot Children's Day presents for our tuition kids. Haha.

And shopping with a guy isn't so bad afterall - at least I don't have to lug all the bags around myself! Hee. :D

a driver now!

a driver now!

After my disastrous driving test the last time, I PASSED WITH A SURPRISING 8 POINTS THIS TIME! (((: Am I awesome or awesome? Hahaha.

But I have to admit that I was very lucky, and I met really nice people on the road. My TP was a friendly Malay chap, and I was much more confident than the first time. Also, when I was trying to change lane along the busy Teck Whye Road, at least 2 cars gave way to me! (And also, thank goodness I can finally judge when people are actually giving way to me and when they are picking up speed.)

However however, as usual, there's a story to share. Just as I was done with my S-course in the circuit, the TP told me to make the right turn, then make another right ahead to go up the slope. Now, there were 4 lanes in front of me. The first two were for oncoming traffic, and the next two were for outgoing traffic. And no prize for guessing which one I turned into.

Yes, for some strange reason I turned into the FIRST lane! And for the longest time, I was wondering how come the lane looked so weird. (For there were no other cars in sight at that point of time.) Then, the TP spoke up, "Adooooooi, WHERE are you gonig!?"

HAHAHA! I was like, "Oh dear! I'm in the wrong lane. Erm, okay, I'll drift left, then go make a right turn to go up the slope." And inside, I was kicking myself for making such a stupid mistake! Who the hell turns into the lane of the oncoming traffic, and during her driving test at that??

But then again, maybe like Melvin said, precisely because no one does that, it's probably not even on the marklist, that's why he couldn't fail me! Haha!

But I promise aside from that ocassional minor slip, I'm a pretty steady driver. Watch Look out for me on the roads!

my not-so-fierce shoes

my not-so-fierce shoes

The craze for fierce shoes has been going on ever since Sex and the City showed up on big screen. Sarah Jessica Parker blew everyone away with her gladiator heels. It's just so vavavoom!

For the entire season, I drooled over them but decided that they weren't really my thing. I'd pick my sexy stilettoes, my cute pumps or those pretty wedges any day.

Until I chanced upon a pair while I was looking for a cardigan the other day. Haha! You probably know what I ended up walking home with. (:

This pair of not-so-fierce shoes are classy yet with a touch of toughness. I love them! The heel is high enough and they are even comfortable! And they're mine! You can tell that I'm a happy girl, can't you? :D

the expensive morning person

the expensive morning person

I refuse to admit that I am not a morning person. I simply cannot let myself be a non-morning person because my days start at 8am and 10am alternately! Which means I have to get up at 6.30am and 8.30am. I have to be a morning person!

So, I try my best, and end up being the expensive morning person. I'm perpetually running late, especially for the 8am classes, which means that I always end up on a cab somehow. The ridiculous 35% peak-hour charge and impossible morning traffic never fail to kickstart my day. Really.

And today, I gave in to the sleep monsters and woke up at 8.05am. Yes, you've guessed it - for the 8am class. There was no way I could make it to school without being at least an hour late, so I decided to go for the 10am lecture, and get an MC afterwards so that I can go for a make-up class sometime later in the week.

The thing was, I had to see TWO doctors to get my MC because the one at school just won't buy my act. Dammit! And with 40bucks, my friends, I've bought myself one and a half hours of sleep, a piece of paper and a whole load of medicine that I don't even need.

Wanna know the best part? The only make-up tutorial slot that fits into my schedule of the week is the 8am class on Wednesday. Says who I'm not a morning person again?

wednesday: meet the girls day

wednesday: meet the girls day

I haven't seen these two girls for ages!

Last Wednesday, I met Julia on the way to school and had a short little catch-up session. This Wednesday, I met Puiyen on my way home from school and stood in the middle of the crowd and chatted for a long while.

It completely made both my Wednesdays! (:

to be a girl (or two)

to be a girl (or two)

The Body Shop sent us a nice little brochure in the mail the other day, boasting a 15% storewide discount for members only. The exclusive sale would only last one weekend!

Of course we (my mom and I) stormed around the house, raiding our vanity boxes to check if we needed to stock up on our supplies of facial wash, toner, handcream, shower gel and other random girly stuffs. And of course we found the urgent need to head down on the last of the great sale!

So off we went, and by the time we circled the store three times and were finally at the counted, we found ourselves with a purchase of over $250! Gasp! I swear we didn't grab that much stuff off the shelf! How can those innocent-looking plastic bottles cost so much! It's just.. cream and such!

But but but, after the discount, we found out that by spending 185bucks, we saved 80 odd bucks! And they even threw in an "exclusive" goodie bag worth about 50bucks for us! And I earn 6 stamps on my member's card, which translates to another 25bucks worth of stuffs to redeem! Ooh la la!

Do I make good mathematical sense (cents)? Haha! Fine fine, I don't. And I know it. So does my Mom. We are perfectly intelligent beings, in complete awareness of the ulterior motive of any advertisement. Who really cares about us? As long as they are making money!

YET, when we read that nice little green card, we were willing to believe with all our hearts that they decided to pamper us and came up with a lovely, generous sale, and therefore we should indulge in it and pamper ourselves too!

So we patted each other on the back, and congratulated ourselves for saving 150bucks. (Hey, it's almost as much as our purchase!) Hahaha. Oh, to be us girls!

art movies & such

art movies & such

A lovely scene from the movie.

I caught a movie with Glenn the other day. Instead of the usual action-packed films, mindless comedies or the predictable tear-jerkers, we picked Boy A. It is a slightly more artistic type of movie that was screened exclusively at Golden Village, and its synopsis caught my attention.

The story is inspired by the tragic James Bulger case, and explores the themes of social justice, fairness and forgiveness. The filming was excellent, with quiet motifs screaming out at you, and each scene could be a photograph on its own. I loved the colours and focus. It's a movie that'll leave you thinking and reflecting for a long time.

We watched it a couple of weeks back, and it still comes up in our conversation sometimes. It's a lovely movie, and I definitely recommend it! Unless you're the kind who gets bored easily thought.

Because we caught the 9.30pm show after a long day, I've to admit that I was tempted to catch some shuteye in between! Haha. But of course the idiot won't let me, so I still caught the whole movie. (: Great show!
